BIM: Building Information Modeling

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the management of information through the use of digital modeling. It leads through the whole life cycle of a built asset, from conceptual design to the construction, maintenance and finally to the dismantlement or renovation. BIM allows collaboration between engineers, owners, architects and contractors in a virtual construction environment. BIM benefits are the increase of productivity and quality, prevention of errors and information losses, better control of whole-life costs and of project deadlines.

Building Information Modeling

CSD runs various BIM projects, in which CSD, respectively partner companies of CSD, act as specialist planners. Today, BIM is mainly used for large-scale projects. These often have a higher degree of complexity, which is why the greatest added value can be achieved here.

We offer the following services:

  • BIM executions plan development
  • Digital model
  • BIM project management and coordination
  • Integration of environmental aspects into the BIM model
  • Energy calculations, energetic simulations

Advantages of BIM are:

  • Increased productivity and security of the planning process with regard to costs, deadlines and quality.
  • Errors are reduced and detected early.
  • With the BIM methodology, coordination problems can be detected and corrected more quickly.
  • Variants can be generated more quickly and systematically checked and evaluated using BIM tools.
  • Particularly during the tendering and realization phase, BIM enables a higher cost-effectiveness with reduced processing effort.
  • The data transfer to the later operator (FM) can be considered as a further significant added value.
  • Improved data quality as they all rely on a common data base and are synchronized throughout the lifecycle of a building.
  • Immediate and continuous availability of all current and relevant data for all stakeholders, and thus improved information exchange.

In order to continue to be on the forefront of innovation, CSD is a partner of "Bauen Digital Switzerland", a community of over 180 profit and nonprofit organizations from the construction industry. The aim of "Bauen Digital Switzerland" is to "sustainably support the Swiss construction industry in the transformation towards digital construction and to maintain its competitiveness, also internationally."
