Lausanne-Chauderon – Union-Prilly Tunnel

PROJECT

CLIENT LEB
Lausanne - Echallens - Bercher railway
LOCATION Lausanne (VD)
DURATION 2015 - 2022

The Lausanne–Echallens–Bercher metre gauge railway links the centre of Lausanne with the areas in the northwest of the city and the district of Gros-de-Vaud. To meet a demand to increase the fre-quency of the service, on the one hand, and to improve safety, on the other, the current tunnel needs to be extended to around 1.7 km. This work will allow a completely free-standing double-track infrastructure to be provided.

HIGHLIGHTS

    • Main tunnel created underground primarily in molasse, locally on soft ground.
    • Open railway tunnel approach.
    • Architectural integration of structure.
    • Adaptation of Union-Prilly station and PRM compliance.
  • Keeping inconvenience to a minimum:
    • Operating rail and road traffic on a temporary bridge while work is being carried out.
    • Occasional interruption of traffic during “spot checks” carried out.
    • Removal of a large volume of the excavated material by rail.
