The ‘Land Art’ artist Saype in Vilnius: art that is in line with our values

19.09.2024

After creating a monumental ‘land art’ work in Freiburg in August [SAYPE | Freiburg], the world-renowned artist Saype picked up his brushes in Vilnius and created a new creation on Gediminas Hill, directly opposite the CSD offices in Vilnius. It is part of his famous Beyond Walls project as well as the Lithuanian project ‘L'Echo Français’ [SAYPE in Vilnius (Echo français en Lituanie) - IF Lituanie (institutfrancais-lituanie.com)].

Saype is world-famous for his giant frescoes [SAYPE | Home (saype-artiste.com)], which depict intertwined hands as powerful symbols of the bond between peoples. Launched in 2019, the Beyond Walls project aims to create the largest symbolic human chain in the world, connecting continents through frescoes depicting hands holding each other. The project aims to promote solidarity, dialogue and unity between people through art. These are values that particularly resonate with the history of Lithuania and the Baltic Way human chain in 1989 [The Baltic Way | 1989 08 23 (youtube.com)].

Saype is committed to environmental protection and creates his works from biodegradable materials, combining art and respect for nature. This artistic approach, which is in harmony with environmental concerns, reflects the values that we at CSD also stand for. We were therefore keen to invite him to share his art and vision with us. So Saype and his team honoured us with their presence at the Vilnius branch. We were lucky enough to have a chat with him in front of his work - a moment of inspiration and sharing. A big thank you to Saype and his team for their generosity. .
