MOOC on municipal waste management in developing countries: more than 50’000 users!

After four years, the success of the first MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) on municipal waste management in developing countries is confirmed: already more than 50,000 students from all over the world have registered.

Launched in February 2016 by the EPFL and EAWAG/SANDEC with the collaboration of CSD ENGINEERS SA, the free course lasts about 5 weeks (4-6 hours per week) and consists of short films and quizzes, available on mobile devices.

Given in English, the course is subtitled in French, Spanish and Portuguese. Thousands of students (including the writer of these lines) have completed the course and obtained their certificates. Thanks to the MOOC, 36% of the graduates have started a new career, 32% have benefited from concrete professional benefits and 11% have obtained a salary increase.

Responding to high demand and current concerns, this MOOC receives rave reviews with a very high average rating of 4.8 out of 5. Many of those who completed the course found important boost to their careers, and all of them gained valuable knowledge.
