PROJECT

CLIENT SKAT Foundation LTD.
LOCATION  Republic of Moldova
DURATION  2012 - 2015

The ApaSan – Swiss Water and Sanitation Project in Moldova aims to improve rural water supply services. This shall be reached by investing in infrastructure development, by supporting the nationwide replication of decentralized rural water supply service delivery and management models and by improving conditions that allow effective replication of decentralized drinking water systems.
The ApaSan Project is financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), co-financed by the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) and implemented by the SKAT Foundation Moldova.

PARTICULARITIES

The project’s main goal was to create sustainable water supply systems covering a large number of consumers at relatively low costs. These systems mainly consisted of spring catchments or boreholes connected to reservoirs supplying transport pipes and distribution networks in villages. Some systems also included a water treatment plant and pumping stations. ApaSan provided financial support, capacity building and assistance to support local structures to set up, operate and maintain the water supply systems. Nine water supply projects were designed and implemented between 2012 and 2015, with a total supply coverage of 14’700 people.
