Training of Egyptian experts on testing for POPs

Update and completion of a partial inventory to draw up the current status of POPs in Egypt. Identify the main hotspots (for PCBs and obsolete pesticides stockpiles) as defined by the Stockholm’s convention (>50 ppm).

 

PARTICULARITIES

  • Short time schedule (less than 6 months instead of 8 months estimated).
  • Partnership with an Egyptian company, Egypt National Cleaner Production Center.
  • Project based on transfer of knowledge and training of local experts.
  • Management of the inventory, not only based on data collected as usually done but mainly on visit, sampling and testing ensuring a real assessment of current status of POPs.    
 

OUR SERVICES

  • The estimated amount of PCBs in contaminated oil in Egypt was found to be more than 42 times the amount estimated in earlier stage.
  • More than 15 sites visited, 30 samples and 81 field tests.
  • Creation of database of site/equipment inventoried and representation in GIS format.
  • Training and transfer of knowledge with local experts.
  • Awareness rising on POPs issue in Egypt
