Inventorying, safeguarding and managing POPs in Egypt

Update and completion of a partial inventory to draw up the current status of POPs in Egypt. Identify the main hotspots (for PCBs and obsolete pesticides stockpiles) as defined by the Stockholm’s convention (>50 ppm).

PARTICULARITIES

Short time schedule (less than 6 months instead of 8 months estimated).
Partnership with an Egyptian company, Egypt National Cleaner Production Center.
Project based on transfer of knowledge and training of local experts.
Management of the inventory, not only based on data collected as usually done but mainly on visit, sampling and testing ensuring a real assessment of current status of POPs.

OUR SERVICES

The estimated amount of PCBs in contaminated oil in Egypt was found to be more than 42 times the amount estimated in earlier stage.
More than 15 sites visited, 30 samples and 81 field tests.
Creation of database of site/equipment inventoried and representation in GIS format.
Training and transfer of knowledge with local experts.
