High demands are placed on the safety of modes of transport in Switzerland. Due to climate change and pressure from housing developments, natural hazards must be taken into consideration more and more.

The Swiss Federal Roads Authority (ASTRA) has already been monitoring the section of road on Axenstrasse between Brunnen and Sisikon for several years because of the danger of falling rocks.
